Heights and Depths: The Journey of Faith

Psalm 103:1-2: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits...”

Our walk with God following our salvation experience tends to take an unexpected turn we could never have predicted. The joy of salvation is one of the highs of our faith. We have so much hope and faith in the future and we believe that nothing could distract us from this faith walk. However, as the days turn to weeks and weeks to months, we realize our strength is too small to carry us through this journey.

Expectations become frustration, faith begins to faint, and hope seems dim. During this season, we feel like God is disappointed with us. Maybe or maybe not. However, the constant is the realization of truth that has dawned in our spirit. Just as we need help for salvation, we also need help for the journey of faith.

Abraham, the father of faith, came to the low point where he pleaded before God "Oh, that Ishmael might live before Thee!" Gen 17:18.

Who hasn't experienced that season where we just want to settle for less than the promise God has made to us? But luckily we have a father that reminds us that he hasn't changed his mind concerning us or His promises. And at the time of life, he shall bring it to pass.

Are you in the high seasons of life? Give thanks to God for the many blessings that have come your way and share your testimony to the cast down to revive their hope. Are you in the low seasons of life? Think back on how God has helped you in times past and trust Him that He will do the same for you. Embrace the lifestyle of the Psalmist who always has a word of exhortation to comfort himself in his God.

Whether life brings us through the heights of joyful merriment or the lows of enduring sorrows, we bless God for His constant presence with us and He is a God that is “beautiful for all situations.”
